4 days

4 days.

In any given year a period of 4 days goes by relatively unnoticed. Heck, in any given week its weekend before you know it. Not so these last four days, which happen to be the first four that Phin & I have spent here in SF (San Francisco for the un-initiated).

A quick rundown of our achievements (no particular order):

-Walking the walk after much talk when it comes to working out the body. Daily routine of morning jogs on the beach with push-ups and sit-ups for desert.

-Not getting lost in a city that will routinely forgo its grid system in favor of –admittedly beautiful – hills, cliffs and lakes. (Okay, I did buy a map).

-Eating some of the best raw tuna known to man, and surviving the much more potent west-coast wasabi.

-Stretching our credit cards thin enough to make a tent.

-Not having to sleep in that tent because: WE HAVE AN APARTMENT!!!!!! (Neither caps nor exclamation marks are gratuitous in this case, believe you me).

-sightseeing around the SFSU campus, finding all the important buildings with only a modicum of help.

-Getting pulled over by the cops on our way out of said campus, without getting pepper-sprayed or beaten or shot (us Europeans much scared of big Yankee cops).

-Finding a nice cheap bed on craigslist, finding the address where it is located, finding the owners to be very nice, finding that they are selling their house and have more cheap and or free goodies we can use, finding none of it fits in the do-not-scratch rental-car, finding a cheap furniture mover on craigslist, finding that he could help us tomorrow night for only $45 and finding ourselves very satisfied with our savvy.

-Doing all of the above while battling with a killer cold/flu/mucus invasion (Phin) and hardly any relieving bathroom visits (Anne). -Making a gourmet dinner in the hotel, using paper plates, plastic forks, an old microwave and lots of imagination (including the gourmet part).

-Buying 2 new SIM cards for the both of us and a best-value-for-money Laptop for Phin (Readers with (some) proficiency in Dutch know about this already, but thought I’d rehash it for you Anglophiles).

-Putting both our names on a legally binding contract for the first time. Yes, for the same apartment as mentioned above, but a whole new achievement in its own right.

-Loving each other even more as each day goes by…

All of the above and I even left out: the Dutch windmill, the chipmunks, the Java shop, the view from the deck of the apartment we didn’t take, the bank which only lets you open an account with a check (after I explained I want a US account to be able to write checks, duh) and, let’s not forget, the <-CENSORED->
..think I’ve deserved a nap. Will be in touch soon..

Love, Phin & Anne

Liefs
